N & A James Ltd takes all the risk and concern away from customers by offering a full contract lifting service. We provide the customer with a complete professional tailor made package where we manage the whole lifting process from initial concept right through to supervising the final lift.

All lifts comply fully with BS7121 Safe Use of Cranes part 1 General 1989 and the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations LOLER. Both these regulations lay down the requirements of all personnel involved in a crane lift.

The Contract Lift service relieves customers of the responsibility for preparing a method statement, risk assessment, berthing study, lift diagram and managing and supervising the lifting operation.

All contract packages are custom designed to suit our clients requirements. We will provide a method statement, equipment, trained personnel, experienced support and all the necessary insurance our customers will need. We also assume responsibility for the “Appointed Person.”

CPA Crane Hire / The Customer Must:

1. Carry out all work in accordance with BS7121and LOLER 1998
2. Provide a Competent Appointed Person who has the knowledge, experience & understanding of all aspectsof the lifting operation.
3. Provide a qualified and competent Slinger/ Signaller.
4. Plan the lift and operate a safe system of work.
5. Provide all Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
6. Ensure that the crane hired is of a suitable type and capacity.
7. Check the credentials of the crane hire company and certification supplied.

The crane owner has a duty to:

1. Provide a crane that is properly maintained, tested and certificated.
2. Provide a competent*
3. In addition, under standard CPA terms, the customer must provide the following insurance cover:
4. Loss of, or damage to, our plant whilst on site.
5. Loss of, or damage to, the goods being lifted.
6. Continuing hire charges whilst the plant is ‘off the road’ for repairs following damage.
7. Public liability, injury to operator, injury to other parties, including their property, arising from the cranes operation.

How much insurance cover do I need?

Hiring cranes and plant is inevitably accompanied by risk and with the cost of a modern mobile crane ranging from £100,000 to in excess of £1million, the financial consequences in the event of an accident could be immense. As a customer hiring a crane or other item of plant, you must ensure that you have adequate insurance cover for the following risks:

1. Loss or damage to the crane whilst on hire.
2. Continuing hire charges whilst the crane is under repairs.
3. Injury to the operator.
4. Injury to other parties, including damage to their property.
